There's something about human touch that is so healing to our nervous system. Scientist would say that's all the endorphins that are released during the massage, and perhaps that might be true. But I personally think it has something to do with being accepted by another in a very intimate way. Touch fulfills the need to be loved and accepted. There are many names that can be used to describe what type of massage it is. After doing massage for over 20 years, I've come to a conclusion that everyone will receive the massage that they need at the time, no matter what the description is.
For me massage is about exchange of energies. When I put my hands on you, I am in deep reverence and gratitude for you to allow me to touch you. Every stroke I make is full of love for you and your body, just the way you are. I don't see the flaws, you may see about yourself. I see beauty in the design. I see perfection in all the contours of your unique body.
I would describe two types of massages. One where you can check out at the door, go into oblivion and allow me to do my thing according to what the intention is for the session. Healing happens by accident, because you relaxed enough to allow change to take place. This would include: therapeutic, relaxation, prenatal and hotstone massages. The other one is where your full attention is needed to make a difference in your treatment. I call it massage with somatic release. It is you consciously creating the difference and can repeat it on your own once you get the hang of it.
Massage with somatic release
The body has a great wisdom. Pain and other symptoms of discomfort are not a problem, but rather a symptom with a story that affects our nervous system. Somatic release heals the nervous system and creates true calm. Relaxation massage is combined with simple directions that may assist in the release of long held aches and pains.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage improves circulation, and decrease the amount of stress hormones in your system. Massage also increases the levels of your feel good hormones dopamine and serotonin, and decrease tension in your muscle
Prenatal
Pregnancy causes an incredible change in a woman's body, and the increased levels of the hormone relaxin in the body causes the body to shift and and muscles to stretch. During the time of change, massage can help relieve tension and decrease recovery time after delivery.
Hot Stone Therapy
Heated flat lava stones of varying sizes are used to massage the body. The heated stones relax the tissue allowing me to work deeper into the muscle. Stones are heated in hot water to the right temperature, coated in oil and are then used directly in the hands of the therapist delivering various massaging strokes.
Reflexology
Reflexology is also known as acupuncture without needles. A form of the practice dates back to ancient Egypt, but only became modernized and developed in the 20th century. The basis behind it is that the reflexes of the feet are a mirror image of all the organs, glands, and parts of the body. It creates a deep flushing of toxins, increases circulation, and breaks up congestion in organs caused by inflammation. Treatments can relieve chronic pain and headaches, support women's health, decrease general fatigue, and speed up recovery from surgery and injuries.
Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating the functioning of the craniosacral system—comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. CranioSacral therapy is most often utilized to treat neurological disorders including ADHD, autism, ringing in the ears and acute stress reaction.
